Mad Bliss – Great Rock Music

Mad Bliss is a great young Israeli band that I’m following for the past few months, and I like them a lot.

They play their material: rock grunge songs in English. They’ve recently released an album, which I’ve purchased. As far as I know, they currently don’t have plans on playing abroad, but maybe one day…

So, here’s their their homepage, Myspace page, and my photos of them from one of their recent shows in Tel Aviv.

Sinai slammed again by Terror Threats

A fresh report from the Israeli Anti Terror Department marks the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt as the most dangerous place for Israelis. I say, take it with a grain of salt. Look at the picture:

Sinai

Terror attacks are likely there, according this department in the prime minister’s office. Other locations are listed there as well, especially towards the Jewish holidays beginning in September 12th.

I’ve been to Sinai just 2 months ago. It seemed very calm and felt safe. I guess that it would be stupid traveling to the beautiful beaches on the Jewish holidays when many Israeli cross the border. It really would be unsafe: Many Israelis packed together would make a great target for terrorists. The Egyptian security forces don’t supply a sufficient level of security.

And, too many Israelis together isn’t fun at all. We tend to be too loud and too rude when traveling or resting in big groups. I’ve avoided large groups of Israelis in Nepal, Peru and even in New Zealand.

So, Sinai is a great place for a vacation. I’ve been there half a dozen times in the past, and I will sure go there in the future. I’ll just avoid the Jewish holidays. A regular weekend will be just fine…

Google Analytics: Bounce Visits are excluded for Avg. Time On Site

Google Analytics stopped counting bounce visits when calculating the average time on site. The new numbers began showing up on July 20th.

I finally received a satisfying answer from the Google Analytics support team, following this post. This explains the jump in the Avg. time on site metric.
Here’s a quote from their support team:

Previously, the Average Time on Site had been calculated as the total time on site for all visits divided by the total number of visits. Both the total time on site and total number of visits included bounces.

As of July 20, 2007, we began reporting the Average Time on Site as the total time on site for all visits (excluding bounces) divided by the total number of visits (excluding bounces). This change also affected data from earlier dates, not just newer data.

Because bounces have been removed from this calculation, you may notice a significant increase in the average amount of time spent on your site. Please be assured that we have in no way changed your data, only the way
that the Average Time on Site is being calculated.

I still wonder why they made this change, and also why they hadn’t reported it on their offical blog.
Anyway, it’s good knowing what this jump in numbers was all about.

Update: Google has returned to the previous policy: Bounce hits are counted as well. So now the equasion of Avg. Time on site is back to: time of all the visits divided by the total number of visits.
Thanks to Bryan for notifying me.

10 Good Things in Israel

There’s a group writing project running in the Israeli blogosphere, thanks to Hannit. The theme is “10 Things”.
I’ve already written a Hebrew post about 10 unconvincing reasons not to live in Beer Sheva.
Here’s a list of 10 good things in Israel:

  1. The coffee here is excellent. Every gas station serves coffee that can’t be found in many countries.
  2. We have a great command of the English language.
  3. The weather is good, and very stable. Lots of sunshine.
  4. The Hi tech industry is excellent. Second only to the Silicon Valley.
  5. We have many types of landscapes, squeezed up in a small country.
  6. We’re still a democracy (although this is controversial).
  7. Israelis like to travel around the world, something that makes them wiser.
  8. Tel Aviv – One of the most vibrant cities in the world, if not number one.
  9. Dancing Camel Beer (and also a huge choice of international beers that Tel Aviv can offer.
  10. Israeli girls are beautiful. They make it to the top 10.

There are many bad things here. I usually complain a lot about politics. But, today I feature a positive post 🙂
