Picli.com, a new site that is the “Digg for Photos” launched recently. It aims to be a site where users can share links to photo. The photos can be uploaded, or linked from other places.

The site is totally immature. There are various flaws. The biggest problem is the easy “gaming” possibility. This is how I did it:

I uploaded a few of the pictures that appear here in the blog. They automatically got my vote (like in Digg). I then disconnected the ADSL connection from my ISP and reconnected. Now, after gaining a fresh IP address, I just refreshed the page and could easily place another vote for my image. No need to close the browser. No need to delete the cookies. Very very simple.

Digg is bound to add a photo section, after a petition for this cause got a lot of diggs (and attention). I was glad to find that this wonderful feature already has a competitor named Picli. Competition is always good. Unfortunately, they probably wanted a speedy Time-To-Market.

This big hole in the voting system is a major problem. I’m sure that there are other holes, but I really don’t want to find them. I’ll leave that for others (more evil and smart people).
I hope they do improve. Such sites are needed and will gain great success.
