I’ve already written here that television is bad for you. It’s bad for me, and I prefer surfing the web than sitting idle in front of the television set.
Yet as I’ve mentioned in the past, we do download movies and television series from the web. One time, while grabbing something to eat, I was exposed to Battlestar Galactica that my roommate was watching. Since then, I’ve been following the series.
It combines scifi, politics, intrigue, personal relations, religion and more. I don’t want to spoil the story, that can be found here.
The production is very good, and I found myself highly fascinated by the show. The last episode of the 3rd season was brilliant. I can’t wait for the next season.
As far as I know, it isn’t shown on any channel here in Israel, and I don’t watch television anyway. We see it using a commercial-free torrent version of it.
If you lack time and are interested in one good thing that television has to offer, I recommend Battlestar Galactica.
FYI: BSG is currently rerun on Yes. Season 2 just started this week AFAIK.
The first two seasons were aired during the RoshHashana/Sukkot period (in painful 2-episodes-a-day batches, and then even more painful 10-eps-a-day batches over the weekend – both option was maddening, but I watched anyway).
Season 3 is scheduled to get here in the summer.
But who cares? I want season 4! NOW!
Oh, it was pretty painful to watch, but also lots of fun.
Nothing beats (well, actually many things do) lying on the sofa on a hot saturday afternoon, half-passed-out from the heat, and wondering wtf is going on in Baltar’s frakked out head. 🙂
Someone told me today that season 4 is scheduled to start in JANUARY! I almost cried into my latte!
Agree with every word. The bad news: It seems like January is the date to watch.
The good news: somewhere in the middle we’re looking at a direct-to-DVD movie/2 hour special.
Also, the soundtrack for season 3 is supposed to come out around August (the first two were really, really good).
I’ve done some serious listening to the fist to season’s soundtracks, and except for the fact that they are both beautiful, it gives watching the show a whole new perspective.
**spoiler**
Bear Mccreary, the man behind the soundtrack, wrote an interesting entry about making the last episode in his blog. Check it out.
